The Heartwood Story

Rather than a distillery, Heartwood’s an independent bottler. This means that the whisky spirit is purchased from a distillery based on Heartwood’s specifications. Once it’s found the right whisky, Heartwood transform it into something completely unique.

The spirit is placed in carefully selected 200- and 300-litre barrels and aged using Heartwood’s special management techniques. The whiskies are aged in-barrel for anywhere from 8 to 14 ageing – making them some of Australia’s oldest whiskies. Since Heartwood’s a passion project that’s not motivated by anything other than making world-class product, they can let the whisky decide when it’s ready.

No matter what age it’s bottled and released at, a Heartwood whisky is not for the faint of heart. They boast an alcohol content of anywhere from 58% up to 72.5%. This makes Heartwood whiskies some of the strongest in the world. Heartwood started collecting barrels in 1999 (and only began selling whisky in 2012), but its mighty spirits have demanded attention from many whisky drinkers.

Heartwood received significant recognition in Scotland for the “Release the Beast” whisky, and have been rated highly in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.
